I am living my Dream. Come sing with me!

Dear beautiful sisters and brothers,

I remember Angie, the beautiful, magical child I was once. She would create poems and dances and organize participatory, creative events for the family reunions. I invite you to join my “I am my Dream Celebration” today by leaving your comments and sharing your stories. Here’s mine.

Through my inherited wounds and blows in life, Angie lost some of her creativity and luster, and she became a caretaker, someone who carried a lot of psychic weight as an atonement for being so happy and creative. She lost her singing voice. She lost her visual art skills. She came to believe that she only had a right to do art if she was NOT enjoying it and if she focused on the problems. After all, that is what she saw everyone around her small world focusing on!

Though I never betrayed my creativity or my life’s purpose, I paid a heavy price for this. I became a workaholic “activist” and carried a lot of social weight, struggle, anger and caretaking into my theater experience, until in 1993 I burned out (literally embodied in the fire that consumed our venue!!) My Ancestors told me then: Healer, heal thyself. My shamanic initiation began.

My shamanic path and my healing journey have been about releasing the psychic weight and reclaiming all of my talents and gifts. I reclaimed my visual art and began doing beautiful participatory art installations, illustrations, book covers, website designs and graphics, sets and costumes. Wow! For a woman who said for years: “The only thing I can do with my hands is write, because I have no talent for visual arts” this was a big growth.

I healed my learned dysfunctions and beliefs, so that I began to create a theater that focused on beauty, on the solutions, on the experience of love and power, instead of drilling the audiences about the social problems. As I let go of focusing on the negative, while sustaining faith in our ability to heal, I also began attracting wonderful people to work with me creatively.

And now, the last of the blockages has been removed. For years I could not sing due to what I call a “Family Curse” –wounds that are passed on for generations. Think about this: for more than 40 years I could not sing. I could not fly in melody. I could not repeat the same note patterns. I could not carry a tune. This was not due to being tune-deaf, because I wen to a specialist. It was emotional trauma and deep-seated beliefs. Nonetheless, I simply could not do it.

In the last years I have been releasing the obstacles to this last remnant of my inherited limitations. Finally, I am happy to say that in my last presentation, in the Poetry Botanica, I sang in public for the first time in my life!!!

I heard the music for Tanya Torres’ beautiful poem “El Rio” (The River) inside me, and I allowed myself to sing it. Imagine what it has meant for me that many people in the audience came to me to thank me for the healing power of my voice!

Please join me today to celebrate that I have become whole, that I have released all my powers and talents, and that I am now living my dream, doing the art that I was meant to do. This was the vision Angie had long ago, the memory of her purpose. Now I am doing it: creating a community circle where people find magic, inspiration and healing through art and love. This is the Poetry Botanica.

Celebrate with me here today by leaving your comments about my story and sharing what you have accomplished, the talents and skills you have reclaimed and the dreams you are now living.

Let”s inspire each other this holidays through the gift of storytelling and the miracle we all are.

Light and Love,

Making yourself available for what you want.

Are you available for what you desire?

Would you stay in the house of a hostess who has not made a loving space for you? I imagine you would not. I imagine that you would leave as soon as possible, feeling unwelcome.

In the same way, the Universe cannot send the energy of what you desire if you do not open a space for it in yourself and in your life. The first Alchemical Key to open the flow of the Law of Attraction is availability. You cannot even begin to attract what you desire if you are not available for it. The question is how do you make yourself available for what you want?

Start your Dream Journey

Okay, so you have a dream. Great. What are you doing about it? You can talk about the Law of Attraction until your tongue hangs out. But I personally guarantee you that the only thing you may attract with mental or verbal speculation is a headache. The Law of Attraction, like the rest of the Dream Laws, is about energy and resonance. It is about spinning a vibration that resonates with what you desire. What are you spinning with your words, your every day acts, your deep-seated beliefs, those that you may not even tell others, those that you may not even know you have?

My question is not about working frantically to “fix” yourself. Goddess, no! We are already stretch to the limit and stressed beyond it! I am not asking you to judge or badger yourself, either. I am asking you to look at the landscape of your life. What is in the foreground? What is in the background?

If you are always placing problems in the foreground, your life will be full of problems. If you usually place bills, responsibility, security and survival, your life will be full to the top with…guess what?… bills and survival-based fear and worry. If everyone else and their needs goes to the foreground while you stay in the background, then the landscape of your life is about others, and you are left out of it.

There is a tiny place inside you. It’s perhaps the size of a small treasure chest. Place your open hand, palm down, on the center of your chest. There. That’s the place. The place where you point to when you say “I”. Who is “I” for you? Are you living this “I” that you are in this tiny place called Soul? This is the Seat of your Soul. Are you occupying that seat? Your Personal Dream is an expression of your Soul. It has to do with what nurtures your Soul, what makes you deeply happy (not just entertained) and what fulfills your potential. Are you seating in the Seat of your Soul? Are you giving your Dream a place in the foreground of your life, day after day? Or does your Ipod get more attention than your Soul?
“There are people who put their dreams in a little box and say, ‘Yes, I’ve got dreams, of course I’ve got dreams.’ Then they put the box away and bring it out once in awhile to look in it, and yep, they’re still there. These are great dreams, but they never even get out of the box. It takes an uncommon amount of guts to put your dreams on the line, to hold them up and say, ‘How good or how bad am I?’ That’s where courage comes in.”

Erma Louise Bombeck

I invite you to assume that courage, to own the landscape of your life and begin to bring your Personal Dream, your Soul and yourself to the foreground. This is a process, not a project. To help you start your Dream Journey, I have created this blog. Beyond it, I have created a one-year Dream Journey in a safe place called the Dream Express Membership.

Naming your dream is bringing it to life. Don’t keep it in that tiny box, hidden from the light and the eyes of those who can nurture it. Bring it out into the open, let it roam free in the landscape of your days.

This is not about great acts of heroism or being perfect. This is about moving each day an inch, perhaps a millimeter, closer to your personal truth, to your Soul, to that which dances inside you waiting to be expressed and to take form in the world. Every day a millimeter, an action, a thought, a word, a release, a sharing or a shedding. In one year you will be a different person. More focused, confident and above all, believing in your dream and making it real.

Here’s to dreaming.
